WAYMEL EXPLORES THE MYSTERY OF CELTIC IDENTITY
RACHEL WAYMEL (TRIO, Study Center) will give a 50 Minutes Lecture Thursday, Feb. 26, on "The Mystery of Celtic Identity, or Who Wants to be a Celt?" Speaking at noon in C101, she will point out that Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain, even Austria and Greece show traces of Celtic heritage. Ireland and Scotland have Celtic music; France its popular Celtic cartoon, Asterix le Gaulois (Asterix the Gaul); and Austria a Celtic village on the shores of an alpine lake. She also notes that archeological and linguistic evidence of a Celtic presence can be found throughout Europe, suggesting Celtic people existed from northern Greece to western Spain and from southern France to the northern Hebrides - quite a large expanse for Iron Age Europe. So, who were (and are) the true Celts? Waymel asks. Her inquiry stems from her background as a graduate of St. Norbert College, DePere, Wis., with a BA in English and a semester of studying in Ireland, where she concentrated on Irish folklore, literature, and language.
Sponsored by the Lectures & Fine Arts Committee, the presentation is open to the public at no charge.

UW-WAUKESHA, ST. JOHN'S MILITARY SIGN AGREEMENT

UW-Waukesha will offer classes in English, math, history, engineering, sociology, chemistry and physics. Additional options will be available for language classes on the UW-Waukesha campus. Those who successfully complete courses will be given college credit through the University of Wisconsin
"I am convinced that this post-graduate program will be a model that others will study and embrace," St. John's president, Jack H. Albert, Jr., said. Founded in 1884, St. John's Northwestern Military Academy is the Midwest's oldest and largest all-boys, military boarding school. It immerses young men in grades 7-12 in a culture of leadership that inspires personal growth through a commitment to excellence in academics, athletics, spiritual and character development.
