There's been a lot of great albums throughout the years that have helped
shape what music is today. But what many people don't think about are those
albums that don't get as much publicity and that don't shout over the air
waves. There have been some great albums that have been released this past
year as well as some highly anticipated albums to be released yet during this
year. A lot of these records are recorded from bands that many are not quite
familiar with. Here are just a few highly reviewed indie albums from 2008.
Copeland "YouAreMy Sunshine"- This is an album that may attract some
fans of early Death Cab For Cutie works. Copeland is considered an alternative
band, and for this album, it is their 5th full length record. This is a
record that contains a light mellow approach that gives listeners just enough
and is able to not overwhelm. It has a soft rock feel with a somewhat electronic
approach.
Fleet Foxes "Fleet Foxes" - This is an album where fans of any kind of organic
folk and enlightenment will find love. When Fleet Foxes' debut album
hits def ears, sweet sounds of folk and acoustic tones will reside. A lot of the
tracks on this record contain a hymnal like sound. The band also seems to almost
borrow elements from some of the early Beach Boys work as well as
some Simon and Garfunkel.
Anberlin "New Surrender" - This is an album for fans of more rock and upbeat
melodies. This is Anberlin's 5th album and is considered by some to be
their best yet. Out of all of their records, they seem to create their own sound.
Most of the tracks have an alternative rock feel to it and at the same time a
lot of them create a more melodic rock sound. This would be a great record
for fans of Jack's Mannequin, and Mae.
Along with these albums that were all released in 2008, there are many
highly anticipated albums to yet be released this year by some other great
indie bands. Just to name a few, the band Midlake will be releasing a new
album that is left as of yet. It will be their 3rd full length record , and is expected
to be out sometime in 2009. Singer/songwriter, David Gray will also
be releasing a new record sometime this year, it will be his 8th full length
album and this new cd is also left untitled yet. Last but not least, a more popular
band, Lifehouse will also be expecting a new album to be released this
year, it is untitled for the moment as well, and for the band, it will be their 5th
full length album.
