A student's guide to navigating college

Welcome back all UW - Waukesha students and welcome to the new incoming freshmen. The transition from high school to college can be tough so here are a few things about how to fit in with the crowd and get along fine. One of the most important things is checking your e-mail. Professors send information about class, grades, what you need to bring to class and many more things that are very important.
There are also e-mails about upcoming events or clubs that you may have interest in. Second, talking with your professors and getting to know them.
Knowing your professor makes it easier when you need to talk to them for help on an assignment, test, or extension. Next is the most important, going to class. You should never skip class because you just don't want to wake up or don't want to go. Missing detailed information that could be on an exam or notes for an upcoming test are never a good thing. Also, every time you miss class it adds up and will lower your grade for most classes. Another good tip is to get involved with clubs or sports. This helps you meet new people and will help you get to know more about the campus.
The last tip is to use the study center to your advantage. The study center is located in the commons building by the English offices. The study center has students that will tutor you, and then inform your professor that you have received help. These students also are reliable and have gotten no less than an A in the class that they are tutoring in the semester before. Following these tips will help make that switch from high school to college a little less shocking.
