How to Not Fail Finals

If you have a problem procrastinating, set up a day and time each week to study for each class and write it down on a calendar or planner. It's very important to stick to it. If you can, take off of work to give yourself more time to study.
Lastly, you need to minimize distractions. As hard as it is, turn off your cell phone and close your Facebook or MySpace pages. Let your friends and family know what weeks you will be buckling down for finals and ask that they please not disturb you. Resist the temptation to go to movies, parties, and events. You will have five weeks of time for those things during winter break.
You can reduce stress between study sessions in many healthy ways. If you feel like your head will explode from studying, get some exercise. Not only will your mind re-energize, but your body will thank you. Exercise has long been hailed as a very effective stress reliever.
Remember to eat nutritious foods to keep your brain working at maximum efficiency--that candy bar from the vending machine is not going to help you memorize physics.
Get a good night's rest before an exam so that your mind will be able to recall everything you've learned. In her article "Studying for Finals and Midterms-Stress Traps to Avoid" Elizabeth Scott said, "A study set to be published in the January issue of Behavioral Sleep Medicine found that students who regularly pulled all-nighters tended to have lower GPA's than those who didn't."
A great resource available to all UW-Waukesha students is the Study Center, which is located across from the English Department in Westview Hall. Go and sign up to work with a student tutor for your course. Tutoring is free to all students. Tutors are trained and have received excellent grades in the courses they tutor and recommendations from their professors. They can provide students with tips on concepts and give feedback on term papers before students hand them in.
Keep things in perspective; life will not end if students don't do as well as they'd hoped on the economics exam. Remember to breathe. Finals don't last forever, and students will soon be able to get back to normal life with friends and family.
