The UW-Waukesha Men's basketball team started off the season strong and continue to play that way. The Cougars are currently 3-1 in conference and 5-1 overall this season, including winning in their last game over UW-Manitowoc 78-65. Leading the way was freshman sensation Jon Osgood who had 22 points and 12 rebounds. With another great performance, Osgood has managed to have a double in every game UW-Waukesha has had this year. "I'm just pretty much in the right spot at the right time. If I'm feeling the shot I'm feeling the shot." Wes Brown also had another outstanding game with 19 points. The Cougars are now starting to find scoring from other players besides Brown and Osgood. Tony DeBrozzo had a very nice game against Manitowoc with 17 points. Antonie Temple also helped the team out in scoring with ten points of his own. Temple has also made a strong defensive presents with grabbing 11 rebounds in the game.
One of the biggest stories for the Cougars this year came during UW-Waukesha's home game against UW-Washington where the spotlight was put on Brown from start to finish. Brown led the Cougars with a career high 40 points in their 99-69 win over UW-Washington. The amazing start of the night from Brown was that he made an amazing eight of his 11 three point shots. Osgood again did his part to help the team by also scoring 21 points and grabbing 16 Rebounds. Temple again contributed with another solid performance with 11 points and ten rebounds.
The Cougars came into this season with some high goals set for them. They wanted to win the State Championship and to finish the season undefeated. Unfortunately they lost their 4th game of the season to a tough UW-Fox Valley team, 73-64. The Cougars now focus their attention on a different streak. Coach Nelson and the Cougars are currently sitting on a 37 straight home winning streak after their last win over UW-Washington on Nov. 24. The Cougars have three home games left before the semesters end and Temple stated that the team's current goal is to finish the semester at 40 straight.
There is no doubt that when it comes to this season that Brown and Osgood are huge pieces to the success of this team. Both players in the last three wins have combined for over half the Cougars points. The Cougars do have a nice a luxury with two high scorers with Brown and Osgood. "If Wes is having an off night then I can come in and take over and if he's on that I'm going to let him do what he do." stated Jon Osgood. Coach Nelson is starting to find scoring from other players on the court. Temple is starting to set up as key contributor with at least ten points in the last three wins. "We're getting our balance, we feel like we are moving in the right direction." Coach Nelson. The Cougars have a couple of home games left against UW-Sheboygan on Dec. 7 and against UW-Fox Valley Tech on Dec. 14. The Cougars next game won't be until Jan. 6 after final exams and the winter break is over.
